Trish and Jeffrey were drug from our tiny corner of Connecticut to this terribly gorgeous Ritz-Carlton at nearly the exact opposite point across the country – Laguna Niguel, California.  A wedding was the catalyst for getting them – and a large collection of other East coast family members – to sunny California.  See the resort’s website here.  It didn’t take much convincing to get them to go…

This wasn’t the first time they’ve stayed at this hotel, the last time being more than 10 years ago.  They stayed in a similar room, with the same dramatic yet classic tile…

and Waterworks plumbing…

That says Waterworks.  Promise.

That’s an incredibly dramatic tile, but it looks amazing!  Further proof that we should no longer be afraid of tile!  Trish remembers raving about how gorgeous this bathroom was the first time around and was just as blown away with it this time.  It looks a lot like heavily veined Statuary, an all-time favorite of mine and a type of Carrara marble – the same material Michelangelo used for his statue of David.  I love that!

See more of their trip & the hotel after the jump….

This season’s final Designer Tag Sale  is happening Thursday, July 28th through Sunday the 31st during Kent’s Summer Sidewalk Festival.  There are great deals on lighting, cabinet and furniture hardware, small appliances, kitchen gadgets, cutlery, and home decor accessories in our outdoor tent.  Kitchen appliances, plumbing, antique prints, and more are on sale in the showroom.

.

What’s a Designer Tag Sale anyway?  And what’s the big deal?  Why so motivated?

What’s a Designer Tag Sale, you ask?  Its all of the gorgeous things left over after Trish and Jeffrey’s 20+ years in the interior design business in New York City, plus a bunch of props,  gadgets, and floor samples that we have had for sale in the showroom for the past few years.  Its out with the old to make room for the new.  The best part about it is that all of the prices are significantly discounted.  AND we are motivated to sell!!

Motivation: whatever doesn’t sell has to go back into storage – which is in the basement.  Guess who gets that job?  Your’s truly (and Trish…).  We (I) REALLY don’t want to have to trek all of this stuff down to the basement.  And its got to go somewhere because right now its taking up the entire {soon to be} bath department.  We are even extending our hours to get as many of you here to get as much as possible OUT!

.

A few other things happening on the Green during the festival that might interest you include the farmer’s market on Saturday from 9 am to noon, a hot dog and hamburger stand at Davis IGA, pulled pork sliders at the Fife ’n Drum Restaurant, and…

.

Hope to see you there!

Kent Kitchen Works does more than just kitchens.  We also do baths and general interior design.  Currently we are in the process of completing our bath department (construction for which hasn’t even started yet, so don’t get TOO excited, but we will keep you posted on our progress.  Its going to be fabulous!).  Before tackling the bath department I had to do a little research to see what ideas we might want to incorporate into our showroom.  I love to research… a lot.  Possibly too much.  Generally it starts by google-ing something and with websites like ElleDecor, House Beautiful, Veranda, or Pinterest, and then I fall into the rabbit hole that is the world wide web.
.
It can take days to emerge…
.
During my research for great bathroom elements to incorporate into our great bathroom department, I ran across some really unique spaces.  Now, we are located in northwest Connecticut smack dab in the heart of New England, which means the traditional style dominates in home decor.  For that reason, our showroom will feature predominately traditional vignettes, but for this post I wanted to show you some of the interesting ways people have done their bathrooms.  I love designing outside the box and these are examples of exactly that.  Granted, a couple of these bathrooms are a product of their environment, but they can still serve as inspiration to someone else with their own unique design challenge.  So… without further ado…
