Something I’ve noticed recently is horizontal paneling, bead-board, & even stacked lumber being used in just about any room in the house.  Have you seen this?

.

.

Pretty, don’t you think?  Relaxed, comfortable, serene.

.

.

.

.

.

These photos show a consistently informal, even rustic, aesthetic, but this bathroom is noticeably more polished than the other rooms…

.

And this looks a bit more transitional Scandinavian, no?

.

Are we liking this wall treatment?

What trends have caught your eye?

.

All of this neutral, earth-toned horizontal paneling reminds me of the glass and stone tiles that companies like Artistic Tile and Porcelanosa have been doing.

Porcelanosa’s Mini Strip Shannan

.

Porcelanosa’s Brick Wood

Artistic Tile’s Fats Brown Glass Tile (hotness)

.

Artistic Tile’s Coltrane Cream Glass Tile

A  photo Trish took of Artistic Tile’s Satchmo Sticks glass tile from KBIS 2010.  Seeing their line of products at the industry show convinced her we HAD TO HAVE THEM in our showroom.  She went totally nuts over them!  It’s been one big love fest ever since.

.

I’m thinking I want to get a little deeper into tile pretty soon.  If you have any tile horror stories, incredibly successful installations, photos, or a memorable tile experience PLEASE tell me about it.  I’m DYING to know!!

.

Have a Wonderful Weekend :)

.

All photos, except for the one Trish took, are from Pinterest.

Have you seen what has happened to porcelain tile?  Would you believe all of these photos are of porcelain?  Even the carrera lookalike on the top right (#2).  Porcelanosa makes really amazing tile that would have you convinced it is paper, slate, marble, wood, metal, terracotta, glass, shell, even jute!  This Spanish company has a streamlined, European aesthetic, but don’t let that discourage you – many of these materials can be seamlessly applied to a traditionally styled home.  The tiles above don’t even begin to cover the depth of product Porcelanosa offers – they’re just this editor’s favorite picks : )  As a matter of fact, these are only a few of the tiles they make that are specifically designed as wall tiles.  Now you can get rid of that wallpaper in the bathroom or kitchen and replace it with something that looks like natural marble for a fraction of the cost, with zero maintenance, and 1,000 times better durability!

.

1. Roma Blanco - paper lookalike with an eggshell finish

2. Carrara Blanco - its hard to believe this isn’t the real thing.  It even comes in mosaics.

3. London Nacar - glossy tile with relaxing horizontal waves

4. Matrix Arena - you would swear this is natural cleft stone

5. Shine Alumino - rusted metal or flaky paint on concrete?  Industrial lux!

6. Pietra Slate - another natural cleft stone lookalike

7. Ruggine - earthy in four color ways

8. Cubica Negro - its black sequins for your walls.  This could be really sexy.

.

Have you used Porcelanosa porcelain in your home?  On your walls or floors?  Indoors or exterior?  Do you love it?  Tell me all about it!

Trish and Jeffrey were drug from our tiny corner of Connecticut to this terribly gorgeous Ritz-Carlton at nearly the exact opposite point across the country – Laguna Niguel, California.  A wedding was the catalyst for getting them – and a large collection of other East coast family members – to sunny California.  See the resort’s website here.  It didn’t take much convincing to get them to go…

This wasn’t the first time they’ve stayed at this hotel, the last time being more than 10 years ago.  They stayed in a similar room, with the same dramatic yet classic tile…

.

.

and Waterworks plumbing…

That says Waterworks.  Promise.

That’s an incredibly dramatic tile, but it looks amazing!  Further proof that we should no longer be afraid of tile!  Trish remembers raving about how gorgeous this bathroom was the first time around and was just as blown away with it this time.  It looks a lot like heavily veined Statuary, an all-time favorite of mine and a type of Carrara marble – the same material Michelangelo used for his statue of David.  I love that!

See more of their trip & the hotel after the jump….
